Sam was diagnosed with RP retinitis pigmentosa at 4 years old he was displaying symptoms of night blindness and missing periphery around the age of 2 and it took me that long to track down the top retinal specialist in the world, luckily in London – I emailed him and Sam was fast tracked. Registered blind at moorfields age 7 his vision would be like me or you looking down two thin black straws – eventually all vision is lost.
We were told that day Sam would not have any useful vision by around puberty due to that accelerating deterioration. At 14 years old his macular oedema was in danger of taking his last remaining vision – he is now 16. His Macular odeama has completely gone… and his condition is stable – must be a modern day miracle!!!!
